They're looking down on us....

This canvas started as a DUD of a piece. Months ago I tried to do a gel medium image transfer onto it but the pictures only came out in blotchy sections. Totally discouraged, I abandoned it and tried to forget it. A couple of weeks ago...it caught my eye and I thought about giving it new life. I allowed the best parts of the transferred images to show through and then gessoed over the rest to give myself a clean slate. The location of the transferred images is what helped the "story" of the piece develop. There were children at the top of the canvas who evolved into angels looking down onto a living family in the bottom right corner. So... it became a work that deals with family and those who have passed on before us. The letters around the perimeter read "we're always here looking down on you and we are so proud of the person that you have become now."
