Recommended Reads and a Quote...
Check out the new widget at the bottom of my blog. It's called Shelfari and it's powered by Amazon. I saw it recently on another artist's site and thought it would be a good way to share some of the inspiring art books I've read. This is just a small selection of the hundreds of books available on collage and mixed-media techniques. I'd suggest www.half.com as a great place to buy. They're a division of Ebay and usually have very reasonable prices.

I also wanted to share this with you:
Start where you are.
Use what you have.
Do what you can.
It will be enough.
This quote comes from artist Karin Richardson, a glass artist and sculptor who was recently featured on an episode of Artisodes here in Florida. I'm not completely sure if she is the originator of these words or if she borrowed them from another wise soul, but they really struck me and have continued to resonate inside me for the past several days. As artists, we sometimes make excuses to put off our creative work. "If I just had this one paint color...." or "I just need this one special tool to finish this...." Karin's words remind us that we have everything we need RIGHT NOW to create something valuable and worthy. I think I'm going to make a poster of this quote and hang it in my studio as a gentle reminder. Here's a link to the Artisodes episode if you'd like to learn more about Karin's work: ( I think her segment is the last one on the program.)
