A Collaboration with Nature
My yard is full of plant and animal life that is relatively new to me. Having lived most of my life in the northern states, Florida is showing me things I've not experienced before and I'm loving it. Our yard is lush with palms, lizards, and Spanish moss...things we just didn't see up north.
This little assemblage is about 12" in each direction (approx.) and is made from a piece of dried out bamboo shoot onto which I've attached strips torn from bamboo husks. Actually, I'm not sure if they're called husks or not. They are the outer layer of the shoot that gradually falls away as the shoot grows. They have a lovely iridescent shimmer on one side and are easily torn into strips like these. I've lashed the strips onto the shoot with raffia and them pinned them in place with metal brads.
